The Australian two kilos silver piece (abbreviated as 2 kg and designated with Ag for "silver") is a very large bullion coin format. Uniquely, in Australia there are two mints authorised to strike legal tender: the Royal Australian Mint (which also makes the country's circulating coinage) and the Perth Mint which only makes collector and bullion coins, as well as other bullion products.
Both mints endeavour to create coins with attractive designs, and to introduce new designs and themes often, in order to raise the numismatic value of the coins over the value of previous metal used.
The Dragon and Tiger 2022 2 Kilo Silver Antiqued High Relief Coin is part of large Perth Mint series featuring themes from Chinese myths and legends.

Celebrating the relationship between two highly auspicious creatures, the dragon and tiger make an awesome impression on this spectacular high relief antiqued coin made from 2 kilos of silver.
Perceived in Eastern culture as symbols of yin and yang - opposing yet complementary natural forces - the tiger and dragon have long been portrayed together. According to ancient philosophy, the beasts’ wildly different spirits created a fierce rivalry - and in challenging the dragon’s dominance, the tiger ensured the restoration of balance and harmony in the world. |

The obverse of the coin depicts the crowned old head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown and the Victoria Coronation necklace worn for her Coronation. This is her effigy known as the "Fifth Portrait" worldwide and "Sixth Portrait" in Australia, in "uncouped" version - showing the Queen's shoulders and not terminating at the neck as the normal version.
On the left, in small letters on the Queen's shoulder, the artist's initials J.C (for Jody Clark).
Running continuously around the rim is the monarch's legend and the face value: ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA · 60 DOLLARS ·.
The background of the rim is a guilloché pattern. |

Struck in high relief with an antiqued finish, the coin portrays the head of a tiger and the head of a dragon. The indomitable nature of each creature, expressed through their formidable eyes and menacing jaws, embodies the equilibrium of their relationship.
The design includes a patterned ring around the animals, within which can be seen The Perth Mint’s P mint mark. The designer's initials NH (for Neil Hollis) are on the left, on a flame coming from the dragon's head.
Around above, the inscription DRAGON AND TIGER. Around below, the date of issue and precious metal content: 2022 2 KILO 9999 SILVER (two kilograms of 99.99% silver). |
