Gold Quarter Ounce 2022 Lord of the Rings - Mount Doom, Coin from Niue - detailed information

Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - such as a quarter ounce of gold (abbreviated as 1/4 oz Au, where "Au" comes from the Latin word for gold, Aurum).

This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series dedicated to characters and themes from The Lord of the Rings books and films, and features Mount Doom.

The mint says about it:
From The Lord of the Rings, this 1/4oz gold coin features a close-up engraved image of the fiery volcano in Mordor, Mount Doom. The mirror-finish background contrasts wonderfully and some relief has been added to further enhance the stunning .9999 pure gold.

Engraved on the obverse is the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll, confirming the coin as legal tender. The worldwide mintage is limited to just 300 coins.

Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the coin is held in a high-quality display case. The Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage are tucked inside the case. A themed outer box is also included.
