Silver Ounce 2023 Lord of the Rings - Mordor, Coin from Niue - detailed information

Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.

This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series dedicated to characters and themes from The Lord of the Rings books and films, and features Mordor.

The mint says about it:
From The Lord of the Rings, this fully engraved 1oz pure silver coin features a close-up view of the mighty Black Gate and Tower of the Teeth in Mordor. The brilliant antique finish and added relief bring this eerie landscape to life. To confirm the coin as legal tender, the Public Seal of Niue is engraved on the obverse.

Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, each piece is encased in a high-quality, themed box. An acrylic capsule holds the coin for protection. Printed on the back of the box is a Certificate of Authenticity along with the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 3,000.
