Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
This coin is the third issue in a series featuring coloured posters from the Lord of the Rings movies, and features The Return of the King.
The mint says about it: Venture into the dark heart of Mordor with this compelling coin, part of The Lord of the Rings poster coin series!
Made of 1oz pure silver, this rectangular coin replicates the theatrical poster for the third film in the fantasy trilogy, The Return of the King. The striking image is mostly in colour, but as a great contrast, Gollum, Andúril and the film’s logo have been engraved and frosted. A mirror-finish border completes the wonderful design. To confirm it as a legal tender coin, the obverse displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll.
Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the coin is held in a Lord of the Rings themed box. A large window on the front ensures you can easily display your special memento! Printed on the back is a Certificate of Authenticity along with the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage. |
