Silver Ounce 2022 Lord of the Rings - Mount Doom, Coin from Niue - detailed information

Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.

This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series dedicated to characters and themes from The Lord of the Rings books and films, and features Mount Doom.

The mint says about it:
This coin features a close-up image of the fiery volcano in Mordor, Mount Doom, from The Lord of the Rings. Made of 1oz pure silver, it is fully engraved and antiqued with added relief, making this one impressive piece! As legal tender, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll is on the obverse.

Each coin is tucked in velvet and placed inside a modern, themed box. On the back is a striking image of Mount Doom, along with a Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the mintage.
