Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
This coin is the first issue in a series featuring coloured posters from the Lord of the Rings movies, and features The Fellowship of the Ring.

Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, this rectangular-shaped coin replicates the poster for the first film in the saga, The Fellowship of the Ring. It showcases a frosted image of the Pillars of Kings, which creates a stunning contrast against the surrounding-coloured landscape of the Anduin River. Engravings of the phrase "The Legend Comes to Life" and the films logo are also added, while a mirror finish surrounding the image further enhances this beautiful design. The obverse includes the Ian Rank Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, providing confirmation that it is legal tender.
The 1oz pure silver coin is placed in an acrylic capsule, to keep this memento safe, and arrives in a LORD OF THE RINGS themed box. The box comes with a large window, so you can display your collectible with ease. Printed on the back is the Certificate of Authenticity alongside the specifications.
