Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
This design is the first in the DC Villains series by the New Zealand Mint, featuring villains from DC comics and movies.
The mint says about the coin: Unleash nightmares upon Gotham City with the one and only The Joker. Expertly crafted from 1oz of pure silver, the coin shows a coloured portrait of the agent of chaos, sporting an evil grin and holding his signature Joker card. The background includes striking illustrations based on some of the villain’s iconic appearances in DC Comics. Some relief and a mirror finish have been applied to truly bring the design to life and leave you laughing it up!
It is created in partnership with Warner Brothers. Consumer Products and has a limited mintage of just 3,000. Engraved on the obverse is the Public Seal of Niue, which guarantees that the coin is legal tender.
Each coin is held in a clear acrylic capsule to protect the villain from his arch-nemesis, The Batman. It is then stored in a one-of-a-kind DC-themed collector’s box. Printed on the back is the unique serial number and a Certificate of Authenticity to further provide assurance that it is a genuine collectible coin. |
