Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).
This coin is the second issue in the Women in History series by the New Zealand Mint.
The Mint says about it: This 1oz pure silver coin shows a portrait of the Iceni queen Boudicca, along with an illustration of her commanding her troops in battle. The mirror finish background reinforces the coloured imagery and, to complete the design, there is a fine engraving of her name along the top.
Stamped on the obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which confirms the coin’s legal tender status. The worldwide availability is limited to just 2,000 coins.
It arrives nestled in black velvet and is placed inside a lovely, custom-designed box. Printed at the back, you will find a Certificate of Authenticity and the unique number of the coin in the mintage. |
