Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature characters and themes from popular culture.
The mint says about this coin: The famous DC Superman #1 comic from May 1939 flies onto this COMIX Coin!
Made of 1oz pure silver, this coin displays a coloured image of not only the first self-titled comic for the "Man of Steel", but for a comic book Super Hero ever. To mimic the comic book, it is crafted into a rectangular shape and coloured on all four sides to represent the spine and pages. Turn to the obverse for the effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll, confirming the coin’s legal tender. As an extra touch, a turning page has also been engraved.
Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, each coin arrives nestled in black velvet inside a themed, custom-designed box. A large window on the front ensures you can easily showcase this rare piece. Printed on the back is a Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 5,000. |
