Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature characters and themes from popular culture.
This coin was is dedicated to the 2023 superhero movie Shazam ! Fury of the Gods.
The film is about 14-year-old Billy Batson, who is given the powers of the magician Shazam. As soon as he utters his name, he receives the adult, muscular body of a hero with numerous superpowers, who must take up the fight with the antagonist Thaddeus Sivana. The name "SHAZAM" is an acronym referring to the nature and origin of his supernatural powers: the wisdom of Solomon, the strength of Hercules, the stamina of Atlas, the power of Zeus, the courage of Achilles and the speed of Mercury.
The mint says about the coin: This rectangular coin features the champion in full colour and includes frosted accents and a mirror finish border for extra appeal. To verify it is a legal tender coin, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth ll is engraved on the obverse. To ensure protection while showcasing your coin, it is kept inside an acrylic capsule. A specially designed box holds your coin and features the Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the mintage of 2,022. |
