Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.

This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series featuring famous movies and characters, and is dedicated to The Matrix.

This incredible Warner Bros. collectible coin celebrates The Matrix which premiered on 31 March 1999. Made from 1oz pure silver, the coin shows a mesmerising, coloured image of Neo seeming to stop time and bullets! The bullets have been polished so the silver shines out, along with the movie name. The words "The One" are laser engraved around the rim of the coin.

Officially licensed, the obverse shows the copyright along with the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to confirm it as legal tender. The compact packaging is themed with a green cascading code and entices you to "Enter The Matrix"! A Certificate of Authenticity is found on the back of the box along with the coin’s unique number in the mintage. A flap opens to reveal the coin specifications - a full 1oz of pure silver with a mintage of only 3,000 coins!
