The obverse of the coin depicts at its centre the crowned old head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown and the Victoria Coronation necklace worn for her Coronation. This is her effigy known as the "Fifth Portrait" worldwide and "Sixth Portrait" in Australia, in "uncouped" version - showing the Queen's shoulders and not terminating at the neck as the normal version. The effigy is very small, being in the centre of the figure-eight shape of the coin. There are no designer's initials on the portrait.
Around above, the monarch's legend ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA; around below, the face value, date of issue and precious metal content: 2 DOLLARS 2022 2oz 9999 Ag. "2 oz 9999 Ag" means "two ounces of 99.99% silver" - Ag is abbreviated from the Latin word for silver, Argentum.
The background is decorated with parallel circles around each half of the figure eight, intersecting around the Queen's portrait. |
