Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature characters and themes from popular culture.

The first silver coin from the Czech Mint's four-part miniseries inspired by The Jungle Book written by Rudyard Kipling is dedicated to the human baby Mowgli and a python named Kaa.

The boy Mowgli is human but grows up in the Indian jungle among animals. His extraordinary story began when, as a toddler, he escaped the clutches of the tiger Sher Khan and became a member of a wolf pack. As Mowgli grows up, he learns to live in the jungle, to respect its laws and to survive despite the ever-present dangers. The man-eating tiger has not forgotten him and is still hungry for the boy's blood...

Life on the border between the human and animal worlds is difficult for Mowgli, but fortunately he is not alone. Not only does the kind-hearted bear Baloo, the fierce panther Bagheera and the strong wolf Akela, but also the fearsome python Kaa help him to survive the trials. This hundred-year-old snake is one of the most powerful creatures in the jungle, thanks to its hypnotic gaze. As soon as it catches sight of an animal, it walks right into its mouth. But the human baby is immune to this magic trick, so Kaa becomes its faithful protector. She helps him escape from the monkey's captivity, they meet a white cobra and they defeat a pack of vicious dholes (wild dogs).
