Silver Three Ounces 2023 Lord of the Rings - Mordor, Coin from Niue - detailed information

Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.

A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes, or are based on the troy ounce - for example, three ounces of silver (abbreviated as 3 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum).

This coin is part of a New Zealand Mint series dedicated to characters and themes from The Lord of the Rings books and films, and features Mordor.

The mint says about it:
Made of 3oz pure silver, with an impressive 55mm diameter, this coin displays an expansive view of the mighty Black Gate and Tower of the Teeth landscape in Mordor, from The Lord of the Rings. It is fully engraved with an antique finish and added relief further enhances the detailed design. The Public Seal of Niue is included on the obverse, confirming the coin as legal tender.

Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, each coin is held in an acrylic capsule for protection and presented in a high-quality, themed box. Turn to the back for a Certificate of Authenticity and the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 1,000.
