Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
The Mint says: This beautiful 1oz pure silver Princess Aurora coin celebrates the third Disney Princess, known for her grace and kindness. Coloured imagery of Princess Aurora, as her alias Briar Rose, dancing with her woodlands friends adorns the coin. Some of the animals are left in frosted silver to add more texture to this delightful design. Her name has been left to shine out too!
As a legal tender coin, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is captured on the obverse. Officially licensed by Disney, the coin will arrive inside a Sleeping Beauty-themed book-style case, including more images of Briar Rose. Inside there’s a romantic image of the Princess’ first dance with Prince Phillip. A Certificate of Authenticity is printed underneath the coin, confirming it as legal tender, along with the coin’s unique serial number. |
