Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
The Bambi and Faline coin is part of an extensive New Zealand Mint series featuring Disney characters, and was issued to mark the 80th Anniversary of Bambi.
The Mint says about it: As part of our special Disney’s Bambi 80th anniversary collection, this beautiful coin showcases a coloured image of when Bambi and Faline first meet. You can see the shy Bambi overwhelmed by the bubbly young doe - how adorable!
The background of the meadow has been frosted to accentuate the silver and adds a unique touch to the design. The engraving along the bottom confirms it’s a full 1oz of .999 fine silver and provides the Disney authentication. Stamped on the obverse is the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, confirming the coin as legal tender.
Officially licensed, each memento is placed in a special edition, themed box. A Certificate of Authenticity is printed at the back of the box along with the coin’s unique number. The mintage is set at just 1,942 - to reflect the year the film was released. |
