Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
This coin features characters from the Rick and Morty animated series. The series follows the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith, who split their time between domestic life and inter-dimensional adventures.
The Mint says about it: Made with 1oz of pure silver, this wacky, out-of-this-world piece showcases coloured artwork of Rick and Morty causing mayhem, which contrasts wonderfully with the mirror finish background. An engraving of Rick’s spaceship below further accentuates the design. To confirm the coin’s legal tender status, the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is finely engraved on the obverse.
Created in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, the coin arrives in a specially designed box, which incorporates images of the granddad and grandson duo. Printed at the back of the box is the Certificate of Authenticity and the product specifications. Also on the box, you will find the unique serial number in the limited mintage of 3,000 coins. |
