Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
This 101 Dalmatians coin is part of an extensive New Zealand Mint range featuring Disney characters.
The Mint says about it: Part of our precious Disney’s 101 Dalmatians coin series, this piece is made of 1oz pure silver and displays the adorable moment from the film where the Dalmatian family are watching TV together in the lounge.
The design is mostly in colour, but as a lovely contrast, some patches of the carpet and the fireplace have been engraved and partially frosted, accentuating the silver. It’s truly spot-on! The effigy of Queen Elizabeth ll can be found on the obverse, confirming it as legal tender.
Officially licensed, each coin arrives in a custom-designed box featuring the image as seen on the coin. A certificate of authenticity and the coin’s unique number in its limited mintage of 2,000 can be found on the back. |
