Niue, a sovereign state in free association with New Zealand, uses two official legal tender currencies. The New Zealand Dollar is the circulation currency for daily transactions, while the government also authorises legal tender coins in the Niue Dollar currency for collector's purposes.
A number of mints issue a large variety of commemorative, bullion and collector coins under the authority of Niue. These coins are dedicated to historical or general popular culture themes not related to Niue itself. Many of them are in standard bullion sizes - typically, one ounce of silver (abbreviated as 1 oz Ag, where "Ag" comes from the Latin word for silver, Argentum). Many of these feature famous movie characters.
The 101 Dalmatians coin is part of an extensive New Zealand Mint range featuring Disney characters.
The Mint says about it: Officially licensed, this 1oz pure silver coin perfectly captures a beautiful scene from the endearing, puppy-filled film, Disney’s 101 Dalmatians. Using selective colourisation, it showcases the moment where Roger and Anita, and Pongo and Perdita, get married. The exterior of the chapel has been frosted to accentuate the silver and add contrast against the beautiful, coloured roses.
As a legal tender coin, the obverse includes the Ian-Rank Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. You’re sure to have a soft spot for this piece!
This lovely memento is the first in our special Disney’s 101 Dalmatians coin series. It is placed in a custom-designed box with a Certificate of Authenticity printed on the back with the coin’s unique number in the limited mintage of 2,000. |
