Fifty Pence 2022 Platinum Jubilee, Coin from United Kingdom - detailed information

The obverse of the coin depicts the crowned old head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, wearing the Royal Diamond Diadem crown worn for her Coronation (effigy known as the "Fifth Portrait").

Running continuously around the effigy is the monarch's legend and the date: ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · F · D · 50 PENCE · 2022 ·. Translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith, followed by the value and denomination in English and the year.

In small letters below the head, the artist's initials J.C (for Jody Clark).

The reverse design features a stylised frosted number 70 against a polished background.

Within the zero, the Royal cypher E II R (from Elizabeth II Regina - in Latin, Elizabeth the Second, Queen). The cypher is surmounted by St Edward's Crown. Below it, the Jubilee dates of the Queen's reign, 1952 - 2022.

In the field below, the designers' initials AR (for Andrew Ross) and DO (Deborah Osborne).

Value and denomination, as well as the date of issue, are on the obverse.

The coins were first issued in the full and commemorative mint sets of the year (base metal in Brilliant Uncirculated and Proof grade, and Proof in precious metals); they are not included in the Definitive mint sets which only feature regular circulating designs. The Royal Mint then announced that 1.3 mln circulating coins will be released through Royal Mail post offices staring on 7 February 2022.

The Royal Mint also lists mintage of 17,030 coins "in trade packaging", 4,636 from the "strike your own coin" (SYOC) experience at the mint, and an additional 2,250 SYOC coins struck on 06/02/2022, to a total uncirculating mintage of 76,094.
