Silver Ounce 2023 King Charles III Coronation, Coin from Niue - detailed information

The obverse of the coin features the official Public Seal of Niue.

It has an inner circle of hiapo designs, representing the fonua (land), within which are stylised designs of a tree, representing life and tagata Niue (the people of Niue), surrounded by an outer circle in the form of a traditional Niuean garland of 14 seashells (representing the 14 villages of Niue), and crowned with St Edward's Crown (of the United Kingdom), representing the sovereign as head of state.

Around above between the two circles, the inscription PUBLIC SEAL OF NIUE. Below, a ribbon carries the motto ATUA NIUE TUKULAGI on two lines (meaning "God, Niue Eternally"), below which two crossed katoua (Niue fighting clubs).

Around left, the metal content 1oz 999 SILVER (one troy ounce of 99.9% silver); around right, the face value ONE DOLLAR.

Separated from this by a beaded ring is a wide rim displaying symbols of the British monarchy: the union rose, the lion of England, the harp of Ireland, and the lion of Scotland. In the lower part of the rim, the date of issue 2023.

The reverse of the coin features at its centre the gold-plated Crown of Saint Edward. Named after Saint Edward the Confessor, one of the last Anglo-Saxon kings of England (1042 - 5 January 1066), this crown has been traditionally used to crown English and British monarchs at their coronations since the 13th century (with a two-century gap between 1689 and 1911).

In ribbons surrounding the crown, the inscriptions KING CHARLES III, LOYALTY, LOVE, and RESPECT.

In the background, two crossed sceptres - the Sovereign’s Sceptre with Cross, representing the monarch's temporal power (the sceptre features the enormous Cullinan I Diamond which, at 530.2 carats, is the largest colourless cut diamond in the world), and the Sovereign's Sceptre with Dove, the dove symbolising the Holy Ghost and the King’s spiritual role as Head of the Anglican Church.

As on the obverse, there is a wide rim displaying symbols of the British monarchy: the union rose, the lion of England, the harp of Ireland, and the lion of Scotland. The thin rim around the edge is gold plated.
